The winners of the Inspire Justice Awards 2023 were revealed recently at a glittering awards ceremony held at the QEII Centre in Central London. The Inspire Justice Awards celebrates and shines a light on the wider justice workforce that keeps our criminal justice system running smoothly.
From case administrators, catering managers and health and safety officers to peer support workers and prison employment leads, the Inspire Justice Awards celebrates the operational support staff who rarely get the credit they deserve.
Winners across the 11 award categories include:
- Gareth Mills - an army veteran turned caseworker who has gone above and beyond to support ex service personnel on probation.
- Stephanie Booth - a Humberside Police health and safety trainer responsible for a 330% increase in near miss reporting.
- The Hepatitis C Trust - a charity that is on course to eradicate the virus amongst the entire prison population by 2025.
As well as all the inspirational finalists, the awards ceremony was attended by a host of senior figures from across the justice sector, including HMPPS’s Michelle Jarman-Howe, CPS’s Baljit Ubhey, HCMTS’s Nick Goodwin and HM Chief Inspector Charlie Taylor.
Speaking at the awards, The Rt Hon Alex Chalk KC MP, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, paid tribute to the contribution of the wider justice sector workforce in keeping our communities safe:
“I am delighted to be here at the Inspire Justice Awards, recognising those people who make such an important contribution to our justice system. It only works if everyone plays their part - from judges through to people who work in IT and beyond – to ensure that we come together to deliver what is so vital for the citizens of our country and our reputation abroad.”
Supported by UNISON, SFJ Awards, HMCTS and BT, the Inspire Justice Awards is organised by not-for-profit Skills for Justice (part of The Workforce Development Trust). Patrick Sutherland-Harris is Client Partner at BT - Inspire Justice Awards category sponsors BT. He comments:
“As a key partner of the justice sector for over 40 years we see first-hand the hard work and dedication that goes on behind the scenes to keep our communities safe. The Inspire Justice Awards shine a light on the individuals and teams whose roles are often hidden from public view and who seldom get the recognition that they deserve. BT is delighted to sponsor the awards and show our support for the outstanding work that keeps our justice system running.”
John Rogers, Chief Executive of Skills for Justice, adds:
“A huge congratulations to all Inspire Justice Awards finalists. Without the wider justice sector workforce that Inspire Justice Awards aims to recognise and celebrate, our justice system would grind to a halt. Now more than ever, it is important to raise awareness of the valuable contribution that these inspirational teams and individuals make to the safety of our communities.”
