Police Mutual’s award winning[1] national community sponsorship programme, Force for Good, will award a further £50,000 in support of successful local projects throughout the country from 1 September 2017, bringing the total up to £100,000 across this year.

“Wellbeing is at the heart of what makes life happy and satisfying. We know that one of the easiest ways to improve wellbeing is to be part of a supportive community, because a strong support network helps make individuals more resilient, content and fulfilled. The wellbeing initiatives we run – from financial education sessions and health screenings at our BeFit4Life roadshows, through to Force for Good – have a positive effect on Police Mutual members and their families, as well as the people they interact with through work and their local communities.

“With the fifth phase of Force for Good about to commence, we hope to see even more members of the Police family nominating projects that are having a positive impact on the wellbeing of their local community”, explains Stephen Mann, Chief Executive of Police Mutual.

The spring 2017 window attracted 2,708 nominations and resulted in 212 initiatives receiving grants ranging from £100 to £1,000. These included a £500 grant to fund the refurbishment of a wishing well in Newquay.  Nominated by retired Police officer Phillip Bunt, who is now secretary of Newquay Towan Blystra Lions, the group plan to use the money generated by coins being tossed in, to support local good causes. £500 was also given to a London based charity, enabling it to host a schools’ safety conference, and in Merseyside, the ‘Tracker Scheme for Dementia Patients’ received a £200 grant to provide families in financial hardship with an ArchAngel tracker to help family members with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

Crosby Community Bike Project was awarded £400. It is run in partnership with the Humberside Force’s Early Intervention Team who were nominated by Scunthorpe Police Officer, James Main, who said: “The Early Intervention Team is a new Humberside Police Team which is based within North Lincolnshire Council and looks at supporting and assisting families to keep them away from the Criminal Justice System, by working with partners and the community. We work in partnership supporting projects that actively make a positive difference to people’s lives. I nominated this project for funding because it is making a positive impact on members of the community who need help and support to get them into employment, training or volunteering roles.”
