Honoured for saving lives

A five-year-old girl who stopped breathing, a suicidal man hanging from a railway bridge and a cyclist hit by a speeding van are just some of the members of public who had their lives saved by police officers from the Metropolitan Police Service who went above and beyond their call of duty.
Acting Commissioner Craig Mackey proudly presented more than 30 officers and two members of public with awards from the Royal Humane Society for their dedication, humanity and contributions towards protecting the public of London.
Those honoured received their awards during a special ceremony held at the Empress State Building on Monday, 3 April with friends and family in attendance.
The Royal Humane Society charity grants awards for acts of bravery in the saving of human life and, also, for the restoration of life by resuscitation.
Amongst those receiving awards were:
PC Melissa Allen-Turner, from Ealing, whose quick actions saved the life of a five-year-old girl who stopped breathing by performing CPR.
PC Adam Smith, from Ealing, who risked his own life by running into a burning building to save several members of public.
PC Michael Athow and PC James Whitfield, from Enfield, who went to the aid of a suicidal man who was hanging from a railway bridge and brought him to safety.
PC Dean Folkes from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, who helped save the life of a woman who had stopped breathing in Ilford.
PC Holly Herlihy and PC Lindsey McDonald; from Barking and Dagenham who carried out CPR on a man who had stopped breathing.
PC Simon Limb, from Harrow, who rushed to the aid of a man suffering a heart attack.
PC Tim Andrews, PC Pierce Madden, PC Jack Wilber and Inspector Daniel Marshall, from Southwark, who bravely entered a blazing block of flats to rescue several residents trapped inside.
PC Garry Peck, from Tower Hamlets, who helped save the life of a cyclist who was hit by a speeding van.
PC Rebecca Brice, PC David Mason, PC Conor McCartney and PC Lee Welley, from Tower Hamlets, who helped save the life of a man in cardiac arrest.
PC Aaron Geeves, from Richmond, who rushed to the aid of a cyclist who had stopped breathing.
PC Ryan Allister, PC David Hammond and PC Adam Rawlings from Westminster who rushed to the aid of a suicidal man and brought him to safety.
PC Daniel Hatton a Royalty and Specialist Protection officer; who was off-duty when he helped save the life of a man who suffered a cardiac arrest.
Acting Commissioner Craig Mackey said: "These officers are truly remarkable and it is with pride and thanks that I commend them for their actions. They are all fantastic examples of the values we hold dear within the Metropolitan Police Service and I believe we should all be very grateful to them for their quick thinking and bravery which has resulted in so many lives being saved."
