If you are looking to get away for a few days, be active, and discover something new, then look no further than the picturesque coastal town of Ramsgate, which has an array of enticing outdoor activities as part of Active Ramsgate. These activities include two new canoe trails and a new coastal walking route.
The canoe trails are a totally different way of exploring this beautiful coastline and seeing some of the local wildlife in their natural habitat. The Ramsgate - Beaches and Bays trail is an interesting, self-guided, seascape route of 2-miles (one way), suitable for seasoned canoeists. The trail begins in vibrant Ramsgate and ends in the pretty and traditional seaside resort of Broadstairs. Discover Dumpton Gap, Louisa Bay and stunning Viking Bay on route.
The guided, wildlife Canoe Safari is a great way to enhance your canoeing experience. It passes through Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve where you can see wetland birds and seals as nature intended. Pegwell Bay is famous for sightings of Oystercatchers, Terns and Shelducks, to name a few and canoeing is a peaceful way to see these without disturbing the natural balance of the area. No canoe? No problem! All equipment will be provided or participants can bring their own. Canoe Safaris cost between £40 and £50 per person and are run by either Canoe Wild or Thanet Diving and Watersports. To book go to http://www.canoewild.co.uk or http://www.kentscubadiving.co.uk
The new Beach Roamer walk is a self-guided walk from Ramsgate's Royal Harbour to Margate, home of Turner Contemporary and Dreamland (6.8 miles,11 km linear walk). The route takes in some spectacular views across nine bays, with stunning cliffs interspersed with wild flowers and vegetation, truly one of the most stunning walks in Kent.
There are also another three walking routes to explore in Ramsgate - The Contra Trail - Boats, Birds & Bays, Sea it all - Coast, Cliffs and Cafe Culture and Town Rounders - Regency, Royal and Riviera.
Along with two highly regarded golf courses, boat trips around the bays or to see wetland birds and seals in their natural habitat and the Viking Coastal Trail cycle route - Regional Route 15 of the National Cycle Network - there is a perfect mix of coastal fun to be had on an active break to Ramsgate.
