Youth leaders wanted for new Volunteer Police Cadet Unit

Volunteer leaders are being recruited in preparation for the launch of a new Volunteer Police Cadet Unit for Cambridgeshire.
The new unit will run from the Blue School in Cambourne from the New Year and will be the fourth Cadet Unit to be launched by Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner Sir Graham Bright since the scheme was established last year.
Cadet units already operate in Peterborough, Soham and Wisbech and dozens of youngsters across the county have gained a practical understanding of policing as well as well as other skills to participate positively in their communities.
The Commissioner is currently looking for enthusiastic people to put themselves forward for Volunteer Police Cadet Leader roles at the Cambourne unit.
Leaders will support the delivery of the Volunteer Police Cadet programme and help to inspire young people to realise their full potential.
Commenting on the new unit, Sir Graham said: "I'm very excited to be launching our fourth Volunteer Police Cadet Unit for the county which will enable more young people to take a greater role in their community and learn valuable skills that will assist them in the future, whatever career they decide.
"This scheme is only as good as the people who lead it and it's vital we attract the right personalities to act as role models for these young people and to nurture their talents so they are inspired to succeed.
"If you think you have these qualities, regardless of whether or not you have worked with young people before, we would love to hear from you."
The Cambourne cadet scheme is open to young people aged between 13 and 18. Sessions will be held on a Tuesday evening from 7-9pm and cadets will also be able to volunteer in their local community, supporting police teams at public events, delivering crime prevention advice and carrying out mystery shopper activities for age-restricted items.
Participation in the scheme will provide accreditation towards formal qualifications and is evidence of voluntary activities for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
