New student police officers

Monday, 03 February, 2014

The first student police officers to be recruited to Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police for more than two years have begun their training.

Twenty officers started on Monday 13 January 2014 and will take their official oath on 25 February. The students are undergoing 18 weeks of interactive, largely classroom based training, to complete the knowledge and understanding side of the Diploma in Policing. They will then go to their stations, where they will be tutored for 10 weeks and complete the performance aspect of the Diploma, while they are working as independent

The officers, who will be based in North and South Warwickshire, were recruited internally from police staff, police community support officers (PCSOs) and special constables. Chief Constable for Warwickshire Police, Andy Parker, added: “I am very excited to be recruiting student officers again after a two year gap and they will make a significant contribution to our fight against crime and protecting people from harm.”
