Run for the Parkinson's Disease Society.
Friday, 05 February, 2010
Every hour, someone in the UK is told they have Parkinson's. One in 20 is under the age of 40. No one has to face Parkinson's alone as the Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS) is here to help you.
The Parkinson's Disease Society brings people with Parkinson's, their carers and families together via a network of local groups, a website and a free confidential
helpline. Specialist nurses, their supporters and staff provide information and training on every aspect of Parkinson's. As the UK's Parkinson's support and research charity, they are leading the work to find a cure, and they are closer than ever. The Parkinson's Disease Society also campaign to change attitudes and demand better services.
The work they do is totally dependent on donations. By running for them, you could help them to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's. The Parkinson's Disease Society have guaranteed entry places in the Edinburgh Marathon and also in the Hairy Haggis 4-person Team Relay, an exciting event where you experience marathon fever without having to run the 26.2 miles individually! As part of their team, you will receive training and fundraising support, access to their online forum so that you can keep in touch with fellow team members, plus a PDS running
vest and training t-shirt!
'We ran a marathon! A HUGE thank you, to the PDS team for all the support in the months leading up to the race. The atmosphere along the course was fantastic and seeing the PDS supporter point definitely kept me going! I really enjoyed the team feel and knowing that we were all doing it all for such a good cause.' Commented Chris Maskell, London Marathon Runner 2009.
If you are interested in either the Edinburgh Marathon or Hairy Haggis Team Relay, please call 020 7932 1314 or if you have your own place in the race, PDS would love you to join their team!
They also have overseas treks, walks and other running events taking place throughout the year.
