Bexley Police has been awarded an Assistant Commissioner's Borough Commendation for achieving the best sanction detection rate in the Met for serious sexual offences in 2008/2009.
All but one of the 14 rapes that occurred in Bexley last year (April 2008 - March 2009) resulted in suspects being arrested, charged and appearing in court.
Bexley Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Tony Dawson received the commendation from Assistant Commissioner Rose Fitzpatrick at an awards ceremony in Earls Court, central London on Monday 18th May.
Chief Superintendent Tony Dawson, Bexley Borough Commander, said: "Bexley police officers have given an outstanding service to the victims of these most traumatic crimes. We are honoured to be recognised and will maintain our determination to bring these violent offenders to justice."
Detective Chief Inspector Pete Thomas, Bexley Police's Crime Manager, said: "We have a dedicated team of specially trained officers who investigate all sexual offences in the borough and I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of such an assault to please come forward to police. We will fully investigate all allegations and can offer victims the help and support they require."
