TV Star Cops Cutback on Calories for Charity

Thursday, 29 January, 2009

A group of police staff from Trafford are taking their battle with the bulge to a nationwide audience, in a bid to raise money for charity.

The eight dieters are taking part in the ITV show 'The Feelgood Factor', which requires the Greater Manchester Police Team to compete with another team of ten contestants in a bid to see who can lose the most combined weight in a two-month period.

Two Stockport-based officers will complete the police team, which will raise money on a 'pound for a pound' basis for Christies Cancer Treatment Centre. Family, friends and viewers can log on to:

and help this valuable cause by sponsoring contestants for a minimum of £1 for every pound in weight lost.

The team will also be given an, as yet unknown, surprise 'celebrity mentor' to provide the drive and motivation needed to fight the flab.

Trafford Police's Strategic Development Manager and contestant Mark Aspin said: "Personally, I think it is an excellent opportunity to not only raise money for a very worthy cause, but also to motivate people to improve their health, fitness and general wellbeing.

"I am quite nervous about it being televised, but I'm sure that it will provide me with the extra motivation to arrest my unhealthy diet and put that fat behind bars."

Chief Superintendent Janette McCormick of Trafford Police said: "I am very proud that so many staff from Trafford have committed themselves to raising money and improving their lifestyle and I would urge people to support this worthy cause in any way they can."

The first program is being recorded today (29 January) at Granada TV studios and will be broadcast on ITV1 at 19:00pm on Saturday, 31 January.
