Volunteer John clocks up the hours

A retired policeman who has clocked up 1,000 volunteer hours with a Community Safety Unit has been praised for his achievement.
John Allen, who works with the CSU based in St Albans Police Station in Hertfordshire, was presented recently with a certificate recognising his achievement on the Community Volunteers Scheme by Central Area Commander, Chief Superintendent Alison Roome-Gifford.
John helps the CSU with ASBO applications, PNC checks and compiling crime prevention packs, as well as assisting with the Police Community Volunteers Scheme and Neighbourhood Watch.
Chief Superintendent Alison Roome-Gifford said, "John is a passionate role model who has benefited policing. He is a fantastic, shinning example of how departments in the police force can benefit from a volunteer, and how volunteers can benefit from giving something back. John has definitely left his mark on the Community Safety Unit and I know many members of the public have benefited from John's hard work, determination and professionalism."
John is the first volunteer to have put in 1,000 hours. He said, "I have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering and it has been great to be part of the team and part of the community. It has been wonderful to give something back, and I feel I put all the skills I gained as a police officer into practice."
