Responding to Jack Straws plan to introduce emergency legislation to allow witnesses to give evidence in court

Paul McKeever, Police Federation of England and Wales:
"Whilst legislation remains in the theoretical stages, it must be applauded for what it seeks to achieve. There are too many loop holes and problems within the Criminal Justice Process and these must be addressed to stop criminals in their tracks. Mr Straw is right that a strong message must be sent to anyone seeking to breach or breaching the law - that they will be caught, tried and sentenced appropriately and not able to evade punishment."
