The Police Federations responds to the Government's decision to back-date allowance increase

Despite the current stalemate on the police pay settlement 2007/08, continued pressure by the Police Federation and the presence of 25,000 off-duty officers marching through London has forced the hand of the Home Secretary on other payments for the same period. The Home Secretary has decided to back-date in full increases in the dog handler's allowance, the London Weighting and the Competence Related Threshold Payments (CRTP).
Jan Berry, Chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales, says:
"This is a small but significant victory in our continuing fight for fair pay for police, and shows that the anger and strength of feeling of betrayal we feel has been recognised by the government.
"We hope that this is the start of a government seeking to put things right, and restoring the 29-year trust that they so readily shattered when they failed to honour in full the decision of the independent Police Arbitration Tribunal on police pay."
