Fostering a job that’s all about making memories Make 2025 the year you foster

Children in your community are waiting for loving homes. 2025 can be the year you make a difference in their lives. Become a foster carer and use your unique skills and life experiences to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children and young people who need a loving and caring place to call home. Be a constant source of support and guidance, helping them to build the happy childhood memories they deserve.

Are you ready to make a difference? Foster for Doncaster is looking for people like you - individuals with kind hearts and open minds to become foster carers. We understand that fostering requires dedication and resilience, but the joy of nurturing and supporting a child in need is truly immeasurable.

Before fostering, Jo, a former special education needs teacher, and Wayne, a retired police officer, both possessed valuable experience working with children. This experience has been invaluable in their roles as foster carers. In just two years, they have provided loving homes for nine children and have generously supported other foster families by offering respite care, allowing fellow carers to recharge and continue providing exceptional care.

Jo says, “I have worked with so many children and their families and bringing up my four children on my own means I have a toolbox of diversion and redirection skills.”
For Wayne working in policing, meant he has supported children and families from different cultures and backgrounds: “These core skills allow me to remain professional and impartial to a variety of situations that may arise. As a foster carer, we are here to care for and love the children, not to judge or question the families.”

Supporting you to care

At Foster for Doncaster, we believe that strong support is essential for successful fostering. That's why we offer comprehensive training, dedicated support workers, and a thriving community of fellow carers. This support network allows you to focus on providing the best possible care for children, knowing that you have a team of professionals behind you every step of the way.

Wayne and Jo said: “Our introduction to fostering and journey to approval was through yet had the personal touch, with consistent reassurance throughout the whole process.

“We are fortunate to have an amazing supervising social worker, she always goes above and beyond to help support us. Nothing is too much trouble.”

Foster carers receive a competitive allowance, of up to £516 a week, plus additional payments for each child in their care. As a foster carer, you are considered self-employed and many are exempt from paying tax on their fostering income. This allows you to maximise the financial resources available to support the children in your care.

Why foster?

For Jo it is simple, “Fostering is the best job in the world! Being able to make a difference in these young people’s lives is simply the best. We keep them safe show them how to love and be loved and prepare them for the next stage of their journey, be that adoption or returning them to family. Simply loving them all and seeing them flourish is all the reward we need.”
