The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) was established as provided for in the Garda Síochána Act 2005. The mission of GSOC is to provide an independent, high quality and trusted system for dealing with matters involving the possible misconduct of members of the Garda Síochána, in a manner which respects human rights and promotes public confidence.

GSOC directly and independently investigates complaints against members of the Garda Síochána and is also empowered to investigate any matter, even where no complaint has been made, where it appears that a Garda may have committed an offence or may have behaved in a manner that would justify disciplinary proceedings. In addition, it may investigate any practice, policy or procedure of the Garda Síochána with a view to reducing the incidence of related complaints.

Assistant Investigations Officers are assigned to an investigation role in the Operations Directorate of GSOC, reporting to an Investigations Officer or Senior Investigations Officer. Candidates will be expected to act ethically and in accordance with the highest standards of integrity, honesty, and fairness at all times in keeping with GSOC’s core values.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience dealing with criminal and/or disciplinary investigations in a law enforcement or regulatory/statutory environment
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to collect information and reach sound conclusions.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with colleagues and manage relationships with internal and external parties by building trust and working in collaboration and demonstrating the self-confidence necessary to cope with challenging and sensitive situations and capacity to be resilient.
  • Shown evidence of taking responsibility for challenging tasks and for the delivery of such tasks to a high standard.
