Is Dating a Police Officer or Criminal Investigator Glamourised by TV Shows and Books?
Being a police officer is an important job no doubt! And the uniform adds it charm, which can easily attract both men and women. Who doesn’t want to date someone who looks dashing in uniform? And luckily there are always single police officers about – if you know where to meet single police officers that is.
Recent crime dramas on TV and various crime novels have also made dating police officers more intriguing to some. If you go onto Wikipedia (the all-knowing oracle of modern times, or is that Google?) you will find something called the CSI Effect. This does not refer to people wanting to date a policeman, but it shows how many people have been influenced by the show – many more people now want to study forensic science and many more people also demand that when there is a criminal investigation, the police use forensic science methods. It is, however, reported that 40% of the methods shown on CSI aren’t really how they would be used in the real world; aren’t possible yet (still being developed); or simply don’t exist at all, meaning people watching the show have unrealistic hopes for what forensic science can do.
Now forensic science doesn’t have much to do with police dating, but just as with forensic science, viewers of crime shows, or readers of crime novels may have unrealistic ideas about what dating a policeman will actually be like. Sometimes TV shows and books are close to reality in the way things are being portrayed, sometimes they aren’t, but what they all have in common is that the viewer comes to glorify the hero, or heroine. Yet the hero, or heroine, may be an alcoholic, who hardly gets by as s/he is so run down by the profession they have chosen but can’t psychologically handle. In real life dealing with such a person won’t be easy.
So yes, people may have some crazy perceptions about your job if you are a UK policeman, or woman, but on the other hand, wearing that uniform might very well lead to you getting your next date as easy as 1, 2, 3, as media has earned you a date without you having to do anything. Being a single policeman, or woman, is not bad. Not bad at all.
By the end of the day love is about finding someone who loves you for all that you are, badge, or no badge. It may be interesting though to ask future dates how they see your profession and if it bears any resemblance to the truth.
Still want to date a police officer? Luckily there are police dating sites (who are good enough that you don’t need to call the dating police because of them. No pun intended, of course…). Uniformdating.com is a professional dating site for people in the service industries, such as doctors, nurses, firefighters, pilots, and police officers who want to find likeminded individuals for a date. Sometimes it helps dating single people who deal with similar situations – who may have irregular working hours, travel a lot, work in dangerous situations and deal with a lot of people under stressful circumstances. Of course, you may also just want to find someone with a uniform as sexy as your own!
